Introduction
The drop-spike shot technique makes up the deficits which can be easily found in common spikes. It’s a kind of spike
technique without spike movement.

Methods
Twenty students majoring in Volleyball from the Volleyball team of the Xi’an Physical Education Institute, aging 20 to
21years, participated in the study.

Results
The results are presented in table 1:
In the drop-spike technique, the volleyball fell from the height of 3.8m, the time was 0.88″, while this technique
couldn’t be easily found by the opponents, so the reaction time was 0.24″. Male volleyball players’ quickest moving
time was 0.82″, 0.24+0.82=1.06″. Therefore, as long as the defending players aren’t in the position where they
receive spikes, only depending on shifting their location, they can’t receive the drop-spikes. After 8 times class-practice,
(about 20 min. per times), 90% students were able to grasp this technique.

Discussion/Conclusions
The application to 10 volleyball matches in Xi’an Physical Education Institute showed that the results of the drop-spike
shot technique were pretty good. More specifically, the success rate was 25.7% higher than that of the common spike.
This technique is a Convert technique in which tips tap the lower back of the volleyball, while the volleyball falls on the
front zone. It’s not hard to grasp and the success rate is high.
