What does "General Gymnastics" mean?

It is much easier to define what General Gymnastic does not mean than to describe what it actually is. Here is the former definition given by the FIG (International Gymnastics Association): "General Gymnastics comprises all gymnastic activities that cannot be called a performance or high performance sports in international competition".

This explanation is a bit too simple. It sure does exclude certain areas of gymnastics such as the system of competition organised according to the rules given by International Gymnastics and rated according to the Code de pointage. It also excludes talent search and support as well as any systematic performance-oriented training in gymnastics
