Introduction
The physical activities, sports or recreation proposed to the handicapped have therapeutical values demonstrating
benefits not only physical but also in the psych- area (1). The objective is to identify the body composition
characteristics; somathotype and VO2 max of athletes with brain paralysis who took part in the Brazilian Field Soccer
Championship- qualified to the 2004 Para Olympics Games.

Methods
The descriptive study with typology ex post facto. Athletes who took part in the 2003 Brazilian Soccer Field
Championship, age 24,4 + 4,80, weight 61,5 + 10,76, stature 169, 3 + 7,83. Protocols: body composition Jackson and
Pollock ( 1978 ) to body density and Siri ( 1961 ) to fat percentage (2), De Rose Pigatto and De Rose ( 1984 ) : the
somathotype calculation method of Heath and Carter (3) and the VO2 through the test of Bench of Katch and McArdle
( 1984 ) (2) . Average statistics and pattern deviation. According to the resolution 196/96 use of human volunteers.

Discussion/Conclusions
The observation of the somathotype characteristics brings our attention especially in the position characterizations,
where: Total- Balanced mesomorph; Forward - Mesomorph-ectomorph: Defense- Balanced mesomorph; Middle field -
Endomorphic mesomorph; Lateral Defense player - Central; goalkeeper - Balanced mesomorph.
The study indicates a characteristic behavior of muscle. The behavior of the body composition, somathotype and VO2
max obeys the characteristic behavior of any groups of high performance athletes. We suggest that studies with related
methodologies should be used for further explanations and inferences to these modalities and others.
