Resumo

A prática do alongamento como exercício preventivo de lesões osteomioarticulares é amplamente aceita e difundida entre educadores físicos e fisioterapeutas. Além disso, é comum observarmos praticantes de atividade física dispensarem parte do seu tempo pré-exercício em atividades de alongamento, ainda que, muitas vezes, sem os critérios técnicos necessários. Deste modo, apesar do mito criado a respeito do alongamento, não há clareza a respeito de como e esta e suas diferentes vertentes podem interferir nas propriedades mecânicas de alguns tecidos e, portanto, na eficiência de prevenção de lesões. Portanto, o objetivo do presente Ponto de Vista e apresentar e discutir alguns dos aspectos mais relevantes relacionados à prática do alongamento do tipo estático, uma submodalidade deste complexo exercício.
