At the outset of the Middle Ages, sports dance originated in Europe. Now it is popular all over the world. Although the introduction of sports dance into China was relatively late, the development of it has been pretty fast. It has won Chinese people’s acclaim. What’s more, it is now taught in Chinese universities as the furthering of education reformation.

Results

1. Sports dance serves as the bond to advance world peace and friendship, and also as the channel of international culture exchange. The rapid development of sports dance in China is attributed to the unselfish teaching and contribution of many foreign experts been to China. 2. Sports dance is wholesome. The analysis of physiological index by many experts at home and abroad in the hope of appraising the value of sports dance in body building proves that sports dance is aerobatic. So it can be the choice outdoor recreational activity. The accompaniment of sweet music also relax and entertain the dancer’ body and soul. Apart from that, the intensity and frequency of it can be decided by respective people, hence is welcomed by a wide range of groups. 3. Sports dance can purify a person’s mind and refine his sentiment. For its special form of cooperating of a man and a woman, it requires that the pair coordinate well and cooperate harmoniously. In the dancing, the communication between men and women can be achieved and their adolescent anxiety eased; their mind broadened and the cooperative and collective notion increased. The dancers have to be beautifully gaited and well behaved, so dancing can also advance the civilization of a whole society in the developing of individual’s characters.

Conclusions

Sports dance is more than a mere sports event. It is a body language used worldwide to bridge feelings; it is an approach to the realization and experience of beauty. Sports dance epitomizes people’s longing for peace, friendship and progress and their pursuit of health and happiness. The longing and pursuit is exactly the embodiment of Olympism. As an open activity in the special form of communication taking place in pairs, sports dance has shattered the outdated feudal notion that men and women should behave themselves and never get involved inappropriately. Sports dance has been enlisted as a competitive event in the Olympics, which bespeaks the sublimation of Olympism.
