The examination group was subjected to an organized programme of physical activity, lasting five months on the whole, with a frequency of three times per week for 75 min each time.

The intervening programme of physical activity aimed at the improvement of aerobic ability in 70% of its time, the strengthening of the bigger muscular groups in 20% and the improvement of the flexibility in the rest 10% of the time.

In the vein of the examinations, functional and sociological assessments took place. Measurements were conducted before and after the examining programme in both groups. Cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength of the limbs and of the abdominal muscles as well as flexibility were all measured.
For the investigation of the changes in the sociological characteristics, two anonymous questionnaires with 14 close questions, categorized on the basis of the quality of life in a personal, family, social, and professional level, were used.

The results indicated that the exercise programme benefited the most the women, civil and private employees of older age, mainly due to psycho-social reasons.
It is concluded that the systematic regular exercise, beyond the beneficial effects on the natural functions of the adult’s body, it also influences positively the improvement of the quality of their lives.
