Introduction
Elite athletes have definite body characteristics that are clearly specific to the sport in which they compete. Athletes may be selected in a certain sport on the basis of how closely their anthropometric profile represents the prototype for that sport. Aquatics training provides with certain characteristics the body, which is also specified by the sport. This study examines the anthropometric profiles of Greek elite athletes in two aquatics sports: Water polo and swimming.
Methods
The subjects were 13 water polo players of the National team with experience in international game competitions and 7 male swimmers, members of the National team and record holders in their swimming event. The physical characteristics of the subjects are recorded in Table 1. Skinfolds sites for the estimation of percent body fat were subscapula and thigh. On each subject, data were obtained for eleven girth measures, nine length and derived length measures, and seven breath per depth measures, as shown in Tables 2, 3 and 4 respectively.
