S. Schröder: Assessment and evaluation as theoretical background for the portfolio approach.
The portfolio approach depends on the periodical assessment of data in order to be included in the portfolio. Assessment has to be seen in close relationship to the concept of evaluation. Both concepts are explained. The Assessment data is coded in numbers or/and words. For the number-based data the concept of a test will be explained. Examples will be also given for the assessment of word-based data.
H. Haag: Portfolio approach in school physical education
School physical education needs new perspectives in Germany and worldwide, as proven by research. The portfolio approach is considered to be one possibility to improve school physical education continuously. Thus the characteristics of the portfolio approach can be summarized in the following points:
Registration of assessment data in agreed upon intervals.
Students are registering their own data (booklet or computer).
Information is available for students, parents and i.e. teachers.
The portfolio-booklet accompanies the students through the school time with at least yearly registration of assessment data.
The major aim is education for self-evaluation and not grading.
M. Holzweg: Motor competence of Primary School children as part of the portfolio approach
Motor competence consists of perceptual abilities, condition, coordination and body experience. The test battery of the motor competence test for primary school children with its 12 test items will be introduced (Especially by providing a test booklet for the participants of the workshop). Test results of German and South African children will be presented possibilities how to integrate the motor competence test in physical education at primary schools (e. g. portfolio) will be discussed.
H. Haag: Examples of a portfolio for physical education in the Secondary I School (grade 5 - 10)
An example for a portfolio booklet in grade 5 to 10 for physical education is presented. Research results are reported about the acceptance of portfolio by students, parents, and i.e. teachers. By providing a copy of the booklet for the participants of the workshop, details of the portfolio will be presented and discussed with this concrete example.
