I have worked in public service sport broadcasting for most of the past 29 years, and in that time I have seen how our support for women and girls in sport to tell their stories has evolved — moving beyond visibility and achievement to also confronting the realities of inequality and abuse.

For a long time, the experiences of women and girls who faced abuse or misconduct in sport were ignored, minimised, or reported without the care they deserved. That silence is beginning to slowly break. Survivors are speaking out, journalists are listening, and the media is learning - sometimes painfully - what it means to report these stories safely and ethically
