Conferences & General Information

* The 13th Symposium of the International Society of Exercise and Immunology (www.isei.dk and www.isei2017portugal.com) that will take place from the 11-14th July in Coimbra, POR. Abstract deadline is 12th March 2017.

* You are invited to deliver a presentation at the first South African Sport Historical Studies Conference which will take place at the Department of Sport Science, Stellenbosch University (SAF), September 15-16, 2017 under the auspices of the Department of Sport Science. The proceedings will take place in the form of a round table discussion. We invite colleagues from all over the country who are active in the creation of sport historical texts, of a varied nature, to attend. There is in an increasing interest in the creation of sport historical texts that moves away from the performance narrative style. This is because marginalised sport communities have little evidence to produce in terms of national and international prestige due to being side lined in colonial and post-colonial contexts. Hence, the dominant discourse in sport historical texts of emphasizing medals, podiums and trophies, as a measure of success, is being challenged and deliberately disrupted at this conference.  Instead, new methodologies are being explored where and the ‘life beyond sport’ is foregrounded. It is the intention to bring together public and academic sport practitioners to share their work and disseminate new knowledges on themes of decolonisation in sport contexts.   We invite interested individuals to submit abstracts of not more than 250 words by 1 June 2017 on one of the following contexts in Sport History: Publishing and writing, Museums, Public and private archives, Social media, Art, Activism,Marginalised Sports, Physical culture, and open presentations.  Submit abstracts to: Mrs M. Botha (mimibotha@sun.ac.za). Presenters will be informed of their abstract acceptance by 15 June 2017.
