Introdução: Diversos países vêm registrando aumento nas taxas de sobrepeso e obesidade em seu pessoal militar. O aumento da idade pode ser um dos fatores determinantes para o excesso de peso.
Objetivo: Avaliar a correlação de idade com estado nutricional e as medidas antropométricas (massa corporal total, percentual de gordura (%G) e dobras cutâneas(DC)) em Fuzileiros Navais da Marinha do Brasil.
Métodos: Estudo observacional, transversal, realizado com 1.107 militares do sexo masculino. As medidas antropométricas massa corporal, estatura, %, DC foram coletadas e o Índice de Massa Corporal (IMC) foi calculado. Cinco grupos etários (anos) foram determinados, G1(18-21), G2(22-24), G3(25-27), G4(28-30), G5(31-33). As variáveis foram analisadas utilizando teste Kruskall-Wallis e coeficiente de correlação de Spearman. Foi utilizado p-valor menor que 0,05.
Resultados: A média do IMC da população do estudo foi de 24,7 (±3,1 kg/m2), porém, 40% estava com sobrepeso e 7% com obesidade. G4 e G5 apresentaram 29,0% de aumento significativo no %G em relação a G1. A espessura da DC peitoral do grupo G5 foi significativamente maior que em G1, G2 e G3, respectivamente 81,5%, 58,0% e 46,2%. A espessura das DC subescapular em G3, G4 e G5 foram significativamente maiores que em G1, respectivamente, 22,2%, 29,0% e 39,3. Houve correlações lineares positivas fortes do %G com as DC subescapular, tricipital e peitoral e do IMC com DC subescapular.
Conclusão: Apesar de ter sido visto um valor médio normal para o IMC na população estudada, foi observado aumento na prevalência de sobrepeso e obesidade conforme a idade aumentava.
