Resumo

O crescimento e a maturação são relevantes à prática esportiva juvenil. Dessa forma o objetivo do artigo é verificar o efeito da idade cronológica e da maturação biológica sobre a composição corporal e desempenho motor em crianças e adolescentes esportistas. A amostra foi de 204 sujeitos masculinos com idades entre 10-16 anos. As variáveis antropométricas, desempenho físico e maturação biológica foram aferidas. Recorreu-se a análise de variância a dois fatores para estudar-se o efeito da idade e maturação biológica sobre os indicadores antropométricos e desempenho físico. Os atletas avançados maturacionalmente e mais velhos apresentaram maiores valores antropométricos, gordura corporal e alcançaram melhores resultados em testes físicos motores. A idade cronológica e maturação biológica têm efeito sobre as variáveis antropométricas, composição corporal e físicos motores, flexibilidade, agilidade, força explosiva dos membros superiores e inferiores, sendo que, esportistas avançados maturacionalmente e mais velhos apresentaram maiores valores.
