Resumo

O objetivo do presente ensaio foi identificar e refletir sobre alternativas que permitam que o esporte infantojuvenil se reconcilie com a promoção da saúde mental, possibilitando o desenvolvimento de crianças e jovens de forma justa, equitativa e inerentemente saudável. Estas reflexões e interrogações visam contribuir com o debate alargado, particularmente em Portugal e no Brasil, acerca desta temática, buscando resgatar o esporte infantojuvenil e sua potencialidade de promover o movimento corporal de forma criativa, livre e progressivamente mais competente, testando limites e barreiras, de forma positiva e inerentemente saudável. Mediante o exposto, o autor e as autoras identificam um conjunto de alternativas que podem contribuir para que o esporte infantojuvenil possa ultrapassar os desafios emergentes como o abandono da prática desportiva, a existência de diversas iniquidades, a profissionalização precoce, bem como a necessidade de responder às necessidades de desenvolvimento complexas de crianças e jovens na atualidade. Neste sentido, são apresentadas diversas interrogações para que o esporte, enquanto contexto relevante na promoção da saúde mental, possa cumprir a sua missão em vez de se deteriorar, bem como prejudicar o bem-estar e qualidade de vida dos mais vulneráveis – as crianças e os jovens que entram neste espaço. Esperamos que o esporte infantojuvenil- a saúde- e a saúde mental sejam perspetivados como conceitos indissociáveis, possibilitando novos caminhos para a organização da oferta esportiva em diversos contextos socioculturais e para inquirir.
