Introduction

As one of the important section of sports industry, professional sport has been playing a important role in international sports economy since 1990s. The article, through the analysis on the quo status of international sport in policy, item, market and professional institutes, put forward some problems which professional sport face up with across century, and also discussed the development tendency of professional sport towards new century.

(1) The quo status of professional sport. Government’s sports policy plays the key roles over the operation of sports business and promotes professional sports development. The items such as professional basketball, professional boxing, professional soccer and professional tennis develop off balance in different countries. The market of professional sport has developed largely and has large effect on society and economy. The professional sports clubs are developing continuously. (2) Some problems existing in professional sport. Firstly, the pressure of survive is increasing in many sports clubs. Secondly, the developmental level has unbalance on professional sports clubs. Thirdly, the competition of professional sport is unfair. Fourthly, professional sports consumers become decreased in some areas. Fifthly, the risk of professional sport become increased. Lastly, the development of professional is not based on an equal footing for females.

Conclusion

After nearly 100 years of professional sport especially with the globalization of economy, it has entered a grown-up stage. From seeing the status quo of international sport, we find out some developments as the followings: (1) the internationalization of professional sport. (2) Professional sports mixing together with Olympics. (3) Financial capital pouring into professional sport. (4) Increase of politics intervention over professional sport. (5) Utilizing laws to control professional sport. (6) The Matthew effect began to play its role in professional sport.
In conclusion, the break-through of professional sport originated from 1980s and some sports items from North America and Europe expanded to other districts leading to oriental countries’ stepping into professionalized sports. In 1990s, the internationalization of professional sport have expanded continuously and also economic infiltration over sports have increased thus to make professional sport step over twenty century with its new features.
