Resumo
O presente trabalho aborda a presença e desenvolvimento do futebol em Salvador entre 1901 e 1924. O texto analisa como os diferentes sujeitos que viviam naquela cidade se relacionaram com a prática, quais expectativas tinham sobre ela e como a especificidades daquele contexto recém republicano e pós-abolicionista influíram na relação dos homens e mulheres com o jogo. A partir de fontes impressas diversas foi analisado o surgimento dos clubes e das ligas de futebol das elites, camadas médias e populares, bem como as representações, práticas e apropriações que os sujeitos tinham para com aqueles elementos. Finalmente o futebol neste trabalho foi pensado enquanto prática de construção, confrontação e assimilação de identidades sociais, culturais e raciais.
Abstract: This present work deals the presence and developing of the football at Salvador between 1901 – 1924. This text analyzes how the different subjects who lived in that city were related with the practice, which expectations had about it and how the specifics of the pos-abolition and republican context influenced in the relationship of men and women with the game. From various printed sources it was analyzed the emergence of clubs and foot-ball leagues by the elites, middle and popular layers as well as the representations, practices and appropriations that were subject to those elements. Finally football in this work was conceived as a practice of building, confrontation and assimilation of social, cultural and racial identities.
