Introduction
Lacrosse for men is often referred to as one of the hardest sports. However, there are almost no scientific researches
available concerning the physiological characteristics of lacrosse event and players, as far as we could know. The
purpose of this study was to clarify the characteristics of lacrosse for men from the viewpoints of exercise mode,
intensity, and physical fitness required.

Method
Thirteen subjects (6 regular and 7 reserve players) participated in this study. Some of them were measured their
movement parameters such as speed, distance, and time required during the real game using a two-dimensional linear
transformation method. Then, the intermittent exercise test simulated the movement pattern of lacrosse game was
created. All subjects were also measured VO2max and maximal anaerobic power, as well as peak power, total power
output, and power decrease during the intermittent exercise test created.

Results
The movement characteristics were shown in table 1. In lacrosse game, total movement distance was shorter, but the
frequency of high-intensity movements was more as compared with Japanese professional football game. The regular
players showed significantly higher value in maximal anaerobic power than the reserve players, but there were no
significant differences in VO2max between the both players. The changes of peak power during the intermittent
exercise test were shown in figure 1. The peak power in the intermittent exercise test in the regular players showed
significantly higher than that of the reserve players, but there were no significant difference in total power output.

Discussion / Conclusion
These results suggested that the exercise mode of lacrosse game could be simulated the intermittent exercise pattern,
and consisted of the higher frequency of the high-intensity movement than that of football game. It was also clarified
that the contribution of physical fitness to the performance in lacrosse game was relatively higher in anaerobic capacity
than in aerobic capacity. The intermittent exercise test created would be available for the testing and training methods
for lacrosse players.
