Introduction
The curriculum objective was the guide for teaching. The purpose of teaching plan was to help teachers to consider the implementation of teaching. Both of these had great impact on teaching. Curriculum objectives, teaching plan, and the influential factors could be used as reference point for teacher professional development and teaching improvement. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the discrepancy between identification tendency towards curriculum objectives and teaching plan in the "Health and Physical Education Learning Area", and the influential factors which caused the discrepancy.
Methods
The participants of this study included 8 elementary teachers. Data collection included Q-sort method, interviews and documents. The researchers analyzed the data inductively using content analysis method.
Results
The results were as follows:
- The top three precedence of the identification tendency towards curriculum objectives were sport participation, growth development, human and food;
- The influential factors of the identification tendency towards curriculum objectives were ranked in the order of teaching beliefs, education background and school administration;
- The contents of teaching plan included objectives, participants, activities, evaluations, methods and environments;
- The influential factors of teaching plan were ranked in the order of the individual differences of the students, school administration and teachers’ professional abilities;
- The discrepancy of the identification tendency towards curriculum objectives and teaching plan were affected by students, teachers and context factors.
Discussion / Conclusions
Based on these findings, the identification tendencies toward curriculum objectives of teachers were different. These differences would directly affect their teaching plans. Therefore, through the understanding of the relationship of identification tendency towards curriculum objectives and teaching plan could be used as a reference point to improve the effectiveness of teaching.
