The soccer stadium as a disciplinary space Christopher GAFFNEY Gilmar MASCARENHAS O estádio moderno nasce no final do século XIX, e se difunde mundialmente no século seguinte, como um equipamento que se generaliza por praticamente todas as cidades. Este artigo pretende refletir sobre o estádio como espaço disciplinar. A partir de Foucault, podemos pensar este equipamento urbano como lugar onde à festa lúdica se impõe um conjunto crescente de normas de controle, vigilância, policiamento e panoptismo. Examinamos um processo de mudança na arquitetura, ordenamento espacial e formas aceitáveis de comportamento social, não somente dentro dos estádios, mas como um processo mais geral na sociedade. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The modern stadium emerged at the end of the nineteenth century, diffused worldwide in the first decades of the twentieth century, and became a generalized feature of modern cities. This article examines the stadium as a disciplinary space. Following Michel Foucault, we consider stadiums to be spaces and places where ludic festivals are controlled in conjunction with an increase in social control, vigilance, policing and panoptic mechanisms. We also intend to examine the increasingly disciplinary nature of the stadium by looking at changes in architecture, spatial arrangements, acceptable social behaviors, not only within the stadiums, but in society at large.
