Using physical education and sport as a tool in international development for persons with a disability

Official Development Assistance (International Aid) has only recently begun to recognize the value of sport and physical education as a tool for social development in developing countries. Canada, through CIDA- The Canadian Agency for Development Assistance has funded programs in the Caribbean, Central and South America, Asia and Africa with emphasis on using sport. To (a) advance the lives of persons with a disability, (b) assist women and girls, and (c) advance the fight against HIV/AIDS. The authors have delivered and evaluated numerous programs and this presentation will share their findings, and draw conclusions about effective "good practice" in using sport as a development tool.
