UKAD  prides itself on protecting and championing a culture of clean sport.

As the principal advisor to government, UKAD is responsible for protecting sport from the threat of doping in the UK. This involves implementing and monitoring the UK’s anti-doping policy and delivering an effective anti-doping programme. To recap on everything UKAD is responsible for, click here.

Substantial Assistance: Targeting the Doping Supply Chain

UKAD Chief Executive Andy Parkinson (left) explains why substantial assistance needs to be better understood and why the sporting community must maintain its support of this concept if we are serious about the fight against doping:

“Recent media coverage shows varying degrees of understanding and acceptance of the World Anti-Doping Code provision for substantial assistance, a tool that allows for credit to be given to athletes and support personnel who assist anti-doping organisations pursue others involved in doping. We understand that this is sometimes a difficult concept to support, the idea of lessening a doper’s ban in return for information. But if we really want to prevent doping, we must recognise that as the end user, the doping athlete may not be exclusively culpable for their activities.”

2015 World Anti-Doping Code

UKAD remains on target to produce a revised set of Anti-Doping Rules by the end of July 2014. These rules will replace those currently in place to ensure sport in the UK complies with the new World Anti-Doping Code when it comes into effect on 1 January 2015.

We will work with NGBs with bespoke Anti-Doping Rules one-to-one to ensure they fulfil their requirements within the Code implementation process.

Earlier this month, WADA also hosted their Foundation Board meeting in Montreal, where the 2015 Code implementation was discussed in relation to assisting signatories adopt Code-compliant rules in time for 1 January.
