Cevnautas,
UNOSDP addresses ISCA
United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace
Sport can make a difference in everyone’s life. But for some people, such a difference is between hope and despair, smile and tears, poverty and employment, war and peace, sickness and good health, exclusion and equality. Sport can give them a chance.
As the Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace, I am deeply convinced that sport, physical activity and play is a key tool that can be used in the achievement of social transformation and inclusion. The UN is committed to promoting the access to sport for all (in priority to those who need it most) and to harness the power of sport in the pursuit of the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The UN recognizes sports as a universal language which people worldwide can identify with and understand. Many UN agencies use sport as a cost-efficient and cross-cutting tool in their programmes. The UN also recognizes the power that athletes have to reach out to people. Many elite athletes are UN Goodwill Ambassadors, and use their fame and influence to help in the achievement of the MDGs.

Perspectives of sport for people with a disability
by Sport et Citoyenneté www.sportetcitoyennete.org
While the Lisbon Treaty is providing the European Union with a soft competence on sport, and in order to prepare the future policies, a European transversal working group is aiming at assessing perspectives offered by sport to disabled people in Europe.
The relationship between European Union policy-making and sport is gaining momentum due to the growing convergence between sport and social areas of activity and the Lisbon Treaty providing the European Union with a soft competence on sport. In this regards also sport for people with disabilities becomes more important for and attracts notice to political players dealing with sport at EU level.
UISP Project supported by the European Commission’s Sport Unit
Mimosa - Migrant’s Model Inclusion through Sport for All
Mimosa: "Migrant’s Model Inclusion through Sport for All" is the name of the new Uisp project funded by the European Commission’s Sport Unit. The project goal is the building of models of inclusion of migrants through sport for all activities. We talked with Carlo Balestri, Responsible of Uisp International Department about this topic.
"The project aims to use sport as a tool for greater integration and social integration of foreign communities in Italy - he said - We aim to study and develop new practices to be proposed to the European Commission as models of integration. We will use sports, particularly football and other subjects specific to certain foreign communities, such as cricket, baseball, touch rugby to increase the involvement of migrant communities. We plan to work on the participation of these new citizens are not simply the association’s activities".

Europe’s Health Challenges Require Innovative Partnerships
SANTE Handbook on Good Practices in Health Enhancing Physical Activity
ISCA encourages actors engaged in health and physical activity to be part of ISCA’s up-coming publication, a European wide Handbook on Good Practices in Health Enhancing Physical Activity. The Handbook will highlight interesting practices from around Europe paying special attention to cross-sector partnerships, uniting the ambitions of the sport sector and actors from e.g. corporate companies, universities, local governments, schools, the health sector and patients’ organizations.
A lot of energy and resources will be put into the Handbook, aiming to make it an important reference point for our future work and to raise the profile of Sport for All in Europe.
We suggest that you immediately seize this opportunity to promote your organization by submitting practice(s) for the Handbook. It’s actually quite simple - just follow the instructions here >>>.
For more information about the Handbook, please contact Anna Streber, Saska Benedicic Tomat or Anders Tharsgaard.

Interview with Lena Knorr from Sport Office of the City of Frankfurt
In your words, what are the unique features of your project?
In the project we, the partners from the cities of Athens, Copenhagen, Innsbruck, Rotterdam and Stuttgart, work together on a local municipal level. We are all people from practice and we have started an animated exchange of different approaches and activities in promoting children’s physical activity. This resulted in a collection of successful measures. Everyone interested can take a look at these best practice examples on our homepage: www.citiesforsports.eu. We have also developed guidelines for other municipalities as a practical handbook for the promotion of children’s physical activity.Re ad the full interview >>>.

The cycle of life in March 2011
The motto of the conference “The cycle of Life” refers to cycling as a part of everyday life and as a source of health for people of any age, with the capacity to generate more liveable cities and regions.
Generally the Conference will treat the main issues of cycling policy. Special attention will be paid on cities, regions and countries that do not have a big tradition of cycling yet or have lost it during a couple of car-centred decades. These specific conditions, potentials and problems will be treated on the Velo-City Conference in Seville.
The conference will be held in Spanish and English.
