Looking into the future
Invitation to SANTE final conference

SANTE project invites you to join its Final Conference “Looking into the future” - a platform for future perspectives and cooperation. The conference will be held in Prague in Czech Republic from 18th to 20th of March, organized by the two Czech SANTE partners, Czech SOKOL and Czech Sport for all Association. The conference will give time and space for further discussion between SANTE Partners and other relevant institutions and organizations to improve coordination in physical activity promotion across sectors. We will summarize and review the SANTE project results and define strategies for future collaboration.

The 3 main workshops will be related to the following topics:

  1) HEPA & Active ageing,

  2) HEPA & Education and

  3) HEPA & Campaigns.

Play the Game 2011 - Call for papers
Submission deadline 11 April 2011

Play the Game has now launched the call for papers for Play the Game 2011, the seventh international conference on sport and society taking place at Deutsche Sporthochschule in Cologne from 3-6 October 2011.

The conference title is Bringing hange to the heart of sport and the conference themes are:

  - Outside Threats, Inside Traps: Countering Corruption in Sport

  - Chasing the White Elephants: Mega-events for the Public Good

  - Fair Play, Fair Pay? Creating Growth in Grass-root Sport

Successful SANTE Seminar at the University of Cassino
More than 80 participants attended the seminar

SANTE Seminar in Cassino, hosted by University of Cassino, had one main title: ARE WE READY TO FIGHT FOR HEPA HUMAN RESOURCES AS PROFESSIONALS IN THE EU LABOUR MARKET?

Seminar secured a common understanding of the current situation on HEPA Human Resources in Europe, including statistics, barriers and opportunities for improving the status of HEPA Human Resources. More than 80 participants analyzed the vocational education and training (VET) strategies implemented in the HEPA sector both at national and European level as ground for the development of specific Life Long Learning strategies and shared occupational standards. Many best practices from the daily work of HEPA leaders, including both theoretical and practical perspectives were presented. Sante Seminar brought deeply discussion of the  future perspectives and expected trends including the possibility of innovative partnerships.

EuroVolNet project kick-off
European Volunteering Network

At the occassion of the official EuroVolNet kick-off meeting, that took place from the 24-25 January in Brussels, project partners seized the chance to discuss the project’s vision and objectives and agreed upon a specific action plan. The International Sport and Culture Association ISCA is the central project promoter and coordinator and had the opportunity to further present the EuroVolNet project at the EU Sport Forum in Budapest, 21-22 February 2011.

EuroVolNet is a transnational project that fosters the exchange of best practices regarding legal, organizational and funding related aspects of voluntary activity in sport. The project partners will form a network of actors involved in the management and running of sport associations.

ISCA President Mogens Kirkeby stated at the kick off meeting: ’that projects such as the EuroVolNet will provide best practices regarding motivation factors and identify the barriers to volunteering, but we need visionary political decisions to remove the formal and legislative barriers for the volunteers.’

Sport as a Mediator Between Cultures
 

From 13-17 September, 2011, an international development and peace conference, including pre-conference workshops, will focus on the role of sport in the development of society and intercultural experiences.

Titled Sport as a Mediator between Cultures, the event will be held at Wingate Institute, Israel. It will provide the opportunity to present and exchange expert knowledge and best practice about using sport and physical activity programmes for intercultural development initiatives.

Global Recommendations on Physical activity for Health
 

WHO developed the "Global Recommendations on Physical Activity for Health" with the overall aim of providing national and regional level policy makers with guidance on the dose-response relationship between the frequency, duration, intensity, type and total amount of physical activity needed for the prevention of NCDs.

The recommendations set out in this document address three age groups: 5–17 years old; 18–64 years old; and 65 years old and above. Up-coming International Gymnastic Festivals
by the European Gym Festival Network

With the support of the International Sport and Culture Association, three organizers of Gym Festivals in Europe started up a common network called EGF (European Gym Festival) to share their information about festivals. The aim is to promote the events on a common platform and to increase the number of foreign participants.

What is the aim of EGF?
The European Gym Festival Council (EGF-C) is an organization bringing together the Gym Festival Organisations from across Europe. The founding members are Festival del Sole (Italy), Blume Festival (Spain) and STB GymFestival (Germany). With focus on European people practicing general gymnastics in their clubs and federations EGF will support the organization and communication of Gym Festivals, Conferences, Workshops and Health & Wellness Programs. In a first step EGF established and promoted an European Calendar of Gym Festivals in order to support the development of general gymnastics.

GIOCAGIN 2011 - SPORT FOR ALL AND SOLIDARITY
27-27 FEBRUARY 2011 TO BE THE CENTRAL DAYS OF UISP EVENTS

Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th of February 2011 will be the central date of Uisp event Giocagin, the manifestation of sport and solidarity that moves Italy. At the same time, in 17 different cities, children and athletes of all ages will have fun showing to the public their exhibitions of dance, skating, gymnastics, hip-hop, rock&roll, martial arts, basket, soccer and even more.

Giocagin is not just sport and fun, but mostly solidarity: this year the event will raise funds for the project “Offer a childhood to Palestinian children”, promoted by Uisp and its NGO Peace Games. Money will be used to organize training courses in the Palestinian refugee camps of Lebanon, where Uisp is active since last year.
Sponsor of the event will be the toothpaste Mentadent, that will participate to Uisp awareness initative for a conscious use of water: Giocagin will be the first one between Uisp 2011 events to focus on the topic of water as common good.
Last weekend the cities of Senigallia, La Spezia and Pisa played a prologue of Giocagin, giving to hundreds of athletes the possibility to live a different day, a day withouth competition, just to love sport and to try helping other kids in the world.

MOBILIZING YOUTH THROUGH SPORT AND TECHNOLOGY
27 March – 1 April 2011 in Vienna, Austria

The 4-day seminar “Mobilizing Youth through Sports and Technology” in Vienna, Austria will involve 24 European participants. It is designed to develop and share hands-on knowledge on how media can further young people’s participation and active citizenship through Sports. Through workshops, round-tables and the presentations and discussions of tools, the linkages between media (be it of social or more technical nature) and youth engagement and initiative will be explored.

The seminar is organised by ENGSO Youth (European Non -Governmental Sports Organisation Youth), ISCA (International Sport and Culture Association), Sportunion Österreich (Sport Union of Austria) and is co-financed by the Council of Europe’s European Youth Foundation.

The 22nd Pan-Asian Congress of Sports & Physical Education
22-24 July 2011 - Tsinghua University, Beijing - China

The conference will be organized by the Sports and Health Research Center, Tsinghua University in cooperation with the Pan-Asian Society of Sports & Physical Education and the International Society of Eastern Sports & Physical Education and feature both Chinese & English as official languages.

The conference is taking at the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Tsinghua University and welcomes many of the world’s sports distinguished science experts to China to have a broad academic exchange in the area of sports, health, and culture.

The conference has launched a wide call for papers including as the following topics: Sports culture, the history and philosophy, sports sociology and social sciences, sports pedagogy/school sports study, the physique research and the health promotion, sports training study, sports physiology, biochemistry and nutrition, sports medical care and recovery, sports biomechanics , sports psychology, sports adaptation, sports projects.

Unified teams at the Council of Europe’s pilot training
A great success that should be continued!

The "Pilot Training on intercultural skills for volunteers and youth leaders working with people with disabilities” was co-organised by the Council of Europe EPAS (Enlarged partial Agreement on Sport), Special Olympics Europe/Eurasia, ISCA (International Sport and Culture association) and ENGSO Youth (European non Governmental Sport Organization Youth Section) was held at the European Youth Centre in Strasbourg/France February 3-6 2011.

Interactive methods like workshops, sport games and open space tools were used. Information sharing was balanced with training possibilities for participants. Sonia Parayre, Deputive Executive Secretary, Council of Europe Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport said: “This was a very successful pilot training. I will report back positively to the governments of the 34 State parties to the EPAS/members of EPAS, and the Secretariat will look for support of public authorities to future trainings with youth”. Bikes, pirogues and World Social Forum
 

What is the link between a biking tour, a pirogue and such a big event as the World Social Forum? UISP discovers in Senegal. On Friday 4th February, took place the stage number 5 of the "Bamako-Dakar. The Silent Solidarity Tour” organized by Uisp. The departure from Foundiougne was in the morning, after the inauguration of the pirogue built by Uisp project.

"The canoe is about fifty feet long and two wide, can carry up to twenty people and is made of mahogany, using the shell waste materials in the manufacture of furniture" says Francesco Tenti president of Uisp sailing league, who participated in construction with other operators - The name of the project is Another pirogue is possible".

Take Life On - Healthier Scotland Campaign
 

Take Life On is a Scottish Government campaign that aims to improve the nation’s health in simple, achievable stages, so that Scots can take life on, one step at a time. By empowering and enabling people to make small changes in their everyday lives, they are helping to reduce the risk of serious illnesses whilst making them feel good about themselves.

The focus for this year’s campaign is to inform parents of children in the 7-11 year old age group about the recommended physical activity guideline of 60 minutes daily for children, the benefits of regular physical activity and the role it plays in helping prevent children from developing serious illnesses later in life.

XIII Estonian SUMMER GAMES
July 8-10, 2011 - Rakvere, Estonia

ISCA Member Estonian Sports Association Jõud is organizing the 13th edition of the Estonian Summer Games in cooperation with the Rakvere City Government and the Lääne-Viru County Sports Association. This mass-sport event will attract athletes from Estonia and other parts of the world and feature among others disciplines such as Athletics, Mountain-Bike, Cross-Country, Orienteering, Compak Sporting, Volleyball, Basketball, Handball, Football, Petanque, Shooting with air rifle and pistol, Judo, Greco-Roman Wrestling, Freestyle Wrestling, Weightlifting, Kettlebell biathlon, Sumo, Floorball, Running, Walking, Nordic Walking, Hiking.
