assunto Re: Teaching Resources Pertaining to Paralympics Athletes
The topic is also a very vast one too. There are some many different classification of disabilities involved in the Paralympics it would not really tell the complete story. For the sport sociology aspects, there are some very interesting books available.
The Paralympic Games; Empowerment or Sideshow? Keith Gilbert & Otto Schantz
The Paralympic Games Explained, Ian Brittain.
Disability Sport and Society, Nigel Thomas & Andy Smith
The Cultural Politics of the Paralympic Movement: Through an Anthropological Lens, David Howe
And then there are quite a few autobiographies worth looking into too.

I show the documentary, "Murderball" and use parts of Mark Zuppan’s autobiography (he stars in the video.) Also, checkout the Paralympics web site http://usparalympics.org/. I follow Jay Coakley’s lead by incorporating disabled sport and physical activity discussions into many of the social issues that we cover in our sociology of sport class. http://www.uccs.edu/~faculty/jcoakley/ In fact, I use Murderball mostly during the masculinity and violence topic and Paralympics specifically in our Olympics/global sport topic.

Subject: Teaching Resources Pertaining to Paralympics Athletes
Listserv,
I am attempting to teach a chapter in my sport sociology course on Paralympics athletes. I have a few resources on “special population” athletes, but I am looking for resources specific to Paralympics athletes.
Any assistance would be much appreciated!
