Dear colleague,
Researching and Evaluating the Games
Thursday, February 23, 2012 from 9:30 AM to 4:45 PM (GMT)
Department for Culture Media and Sport, London, United Kingdom

As an individual with expertise in a field relating to the London 2012 Games Olympic and Paralympic Games, we thought this opportunity may be of interest to you.

On 23 February 2012, Podium is working in partnership with The Department for Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) to deliver a free event in Central London to discuss current research and evaluation around the London 2012 Games.

DCMS - Meta-Evaluation

The Department for Culture Media and Sport has commissioned a consortium led by Grant Thornton, including Ecorys and Loughborough University, to undertake a comprehensive meta-evaluation of the outputs, outcomes, impacts, benefits, and value for money of investment in the 2012 Games. The meta-evaluation will pull together the results of evaluations of individual legacy programmes, projects and initiatives and use these along with additional research to evaluate the overall legacy of the Games. It will aim to address overarching questions such as the impact of the Games on the UK economy and on the uptake of sport.

Researching and Evaluating the Games Conference (23 Feb 2012)

The purpose of this conference is for academic experts to present and discuss topics that fit within the four main areas of the London 2012 ’legacy plan’:

. Sport: harnessing the UK’s passion for sport to increase grassroots participation and competitive sport and to encourage physical activity

.  Economic: exploiting the opportunities for economic growth offered by hosting the Games

.  Community Engagement: promoting engagement and achieving participation across all groups in society through the Games

.  East London Regeneration: ensuring that the Olympic Park can be developed after the Games as one of the principal drivers of regeneration in East London.

This conference presents an ideal platform for individuals/organisations to provide a short oral presentation on a specialist area (in relation to the above themes) to an audience of academics with a real passion for the Games.

Games Experts

One of the projects Podium will be showcasing at this event is the Games Experts website: www.games-experts.com

The primary aim of this website is to allow the world’s media to access the profiles and contact details of the UK’s leading Games experts so that they may approach them for advice, quotes and full interviews. The professionals are leading experts in a variety of London 2012 related fields including sport, disability sport, media, culture, business, research, training camps, employability, legacy and many more.

Do please feel free to share both the details of the Researching and Evaluating the Games Conference and the Games Expert website with any relevant colleagues.
