Sport Law and Regulation
The law and regulatory regimes (both public and private) are increasingly impacting upon the management of sport. Indeed, there is a growing body of sport law that is the subject of number of texts and journals; a substantive new text on Australian Sport Law is to be released in December 2008 by Oxford University Press and the third volume of the Australian New Zealand Sport Law Journal is due for release any time. However, their focus is not on sport management. The connection of the theoretical or empirical (including case study) approaches to the study of how law and regulatory systems affect sport management is a timely topic for review. Accordingly the theme for the special issue is “Sport Law and Regulation”.
Papers will be welcome on topics in the broad areas of law and regulation (public and private) including:
1. Legislation and case law influencing the management of sport organisations, events, venues or activities:
· spectator or crowd control,
· violence and crime in sport,
· industrial relations or employment law,
· sanctity of contract in the global sport environment
· intellectual property rights,
· consumer protection and ambush marketing,
· duty of care/health and safety/risk management,
· working with children legislation,
· mediation and dispute resolution mechanisms in sport, and
· competition law.
2. Regulatory regimes affecting sport organisations and individuals:
· broadcasting regulations,
· anti-doping and illicit and recreational drug control regimes,
· regulation of wagering and sports betting,
· regulation of sport agents,
· regulation of sponsorship (e.g. tobacco and alcohol), and
· corporate governance standards and structures.
