ICSEMIS 2008. International Convention on Science, Education and Medicine in Sport

Programa

The 2008 International Convention on Science, Education and Medicine in Sport (hereafter named the Convention or 2008 ICSEMIS will be held on August 1-5, 2008 in Guangzhou, People´s Republic of China, just one week before the Opening Ceremony of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Game. The Opening Ceremony and Keynote Lectures of the Convention will be held in the Guangzhou Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Memorial Hall. The Convention venue is the Conference Centre of the Dongfang Hotel.

In accordance with the Memorandum between the four international collaborating partners -the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE), the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS), the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the Convention shall take place in the host country of the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.

2. Hosts and Organizers

In accordance with the Convention Host Agreement, the Convention will be hosted under the collaboration of the ICSSPE, the FIMS, the IOC and the IPC and organized by the General Administration of Sport of China and the People’s Government of Guangdong Province.

3. Convention Theme

The Convention, themed Sport Sciences and Harmonious Society in the 21st Century, attempts to highlight the very special role physical activity, in its many forms, can play in bridging the communication divide often experienced in today’s multicultural societies. This theme was agreed by the People´s Government of Guangdong Province and General Administration of Sport of China, and approved by the four partners.

4. Vision and Scale

More than 2500 delegates are expected to participate in this unprecedented Convention. This will be the largest convention of its type ever held.

The Convention vision is to make this Convention the biggest in scale, the better in quality, the wider in participation and the more characterized. It is a common aspiration of the hosts and organizers that 2008 ICSEMIS will be the prelude to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Under the leadership of the four partners, we will try our best to reach the Convention standards: first class in organizing, delivery, facility and service.

5. Convention Content

The Convention is one of the largest multi-disciplinary, professional meetings in the field. Every four year, the scientific community form around the world gathers together in an international convention to exchange the latest findings, experiences and developments in the various fields of sport science, sports medicine, physical activity, physical education and the practice of sport.
