Introduction

The Olympic Movement, a great social practice in human society since the industrial civilization, has a wide effect and profound significance in the human civilization history. Schools are the earliest realm that accepted the Olympic Movement in China .As an important window to study the history from conflict to integration between the Olympic Movement and Chinese Society and its sport culture, schools have evolved the Olympic Movement to a significant component of school physical education(PE) in modern China accompanied by the sustainable development of the Olympic Movement.


Methods

This paper applies the methods of quoting documents data and interviewing experts to provide an analytical approach to the study of the influence of Olympic Movement on the development and evolution of school PE in modern China.


Results

The Olympic Movement has a great influence on the ideological system, the institutional structure, the activities and the patterns of school physical education in modern China. The essence of the Olympic Movement, which permeated into Chinese school physical education through its scientific and reasonable nature, has put vigor into its development and has led it to the modernization. In the course of being influenced by the Olympic Movement, Chinese school PE underwent a initiative and adaptable reform and in the course of mutual influence, China has formed a system of school PE with special characteristics which promotes a rapid progress of Chinese school PE, meanwhile, the development has also provided the Olympic Movement with more expansive space and thus to stimulate its continuous development.


Discussion/ Conclusions

The activities in school PE of modern China were mainly influenced by the Olympic Movement. Affected by the substances and patterns of the western PE which spread to China in the early period and that modern China sends players including students to attend the Olympic Games, in the Chinese school PE, the classroom teaching, teaching evaluation or extracurricular activities, PE training after class or the contents, methods, patterns of sports meets in and out schools are closer and closer to the substances and patterns of the Olympic Movement. The school PE of modern China has deeply seared by the Olympic Movement.
