Introduction

People do not like politics to intervene in Olympic Games. However, the successes of the past Olympic Games hosted by various countries and the success of China in bidding for the Beijing Olympic Games were all the results of joint efforts of the governments and the nationals of these countries. Without governmental supports, it would be difficult to host or bid for Olympic Games. Hence, researches on the relations between Olympics and politics have become important study subjects in the probe of international competitive sports development and Beijing’s hosting of the Olympic Games in 2008.

Methods

This study subject has been listed as one of the key research subjects of the China National Sport Bureau for hosting the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The methodologies to be adopted are literature data, survey, systematic analysis, etc.

Results

First, the aims of Olympics are not only "materialized" physical performances, scores or prizes, but also educating youth and promoting world peace and development. In other words, they are for human beings instead of materials. So, the "humanistic Olympics" of Beijing seek impartial competitions, and moral competitions filled with humanistic and educational meanings. China, through hosting such Olympic Games, will benefit in terms of overcoming the notions and acts of "selfish departmentalism" of government officials, athletes and other people. Second, we should conscientiously study the possibility of active involvement of politics. First of all, the Chinese government should actively publicize the "public spirits" of impartial competition and promotion of world peace and development in the Olympics, so as to form strong ideological forces. Secondly, we should promulgate a series of policies and regulations to represent strong systematic forces. Lastly, our government must increase its material input to actively improve the environment for the Olympics, so that we can create good "humanistic environment" with strong "material power".

Discussion/ Conclusion

The "humanistic Olympics of Beijing in 2008 shall become a platform for impartial competitions filled with humanistic and educational meanings. The Chinese government must utilize active and friendly ideological powers, systematic strength and material forces to host and unprecedented and stable "humanistic Olympic Games".
