Given the growing importance attached to sport in contemporary society and the significant involvement of technology in the communication process within this society, it becomes necessary to examine with a more detailed look the relationship between sports and media, considering its power in the construction of our social reality, which goes through the Brazilian Education and Physical Education at school. A relevant moment to analyse these manifestations was the achievement of Rio 2007 Pan American Games. Thus, this research of qualitative approach and descriptive character, characterized as a study of reception (according to the Latin American Sociology of Communication current), aimed to examine how young people perceive, understand and analyze the mediatic scheduling of these Games, and its possible repercussions in Physical Education at school. Regarding the theme, several studies are being developed and the emphasis is usually given to the issuer pole (media), forgetting the subjects receiving and re-meaning such productions (the reception). This was the intention of this research, which was to consider students as subjects-receptors, with who the professor of Physical Education can intervene pedagogically. The field research was conducted with students of a school in Florianopolis, which formed a small discussion/observation group, being developed through the collection of questionnaires-recording and periodic meetings with the group. A field diary was also used, to record observations and other issues collected in the field. For systematization and interpretation of the data, the analyzing procedure of content was adopted, which allowed linking the object under study with the theoretical issues in the form of categories, which were: Training and delegations, Infrastructure and Security, Variety, Pan American Torch and Countdown. These categories were build up, in this study, by the way the agenda for the Pan American Games was employed by the media, being perceived and identified by the young students when they attached a meaning to the mediatic-sportive speech. As final considerations, in summary, you can see that: (a) the students have demonstrated daily contact with the sportive media, especially with television and internet;(b) students showed extensive knowledge about the achievement of the Games, especially regarding to the process of mediatic scheduling, (c) the way they expressed their perception regarding the scheduling demonstrates the effectiveness of the mediatic-sportive speech; (d) they also reveal the lack of school mediation, especially regarding to Physical Education, and how the theme is pedagogically handled. The findings of the survey ratify the indications of the theoretical framework of reference in regard to the need for development of the process of media-education within school, in order to broaden the understandings involving the sports culture of the students.
