Introduction
The ancient and the modern Olympic Games are two different social cultural phenomenon in different social contexts. The paper compares and analyzes the main features of them, studies the profound influences of the ancient Olympic
Games on the modern Olympic Games and probes the differences between them, which exerts great significance in overall understanding the development of sports.
Methods
The paper adopts the methods of literature review and comparative analysis.
Results
1. The modern Olympic Games are deeply influenced by the ancient Olympic Games. The modern Olympic Games follow the name of the ancient Olympic Games, the tradition of holding the Olympic Games every 4 years, borrow and develop some ceremonies and take in the traditional ideas of the ancient Olympic Games.
2. There are great differences in the ancient Olympic Games and the modern Olympic Games. Ethnicity and internationalism, ancient sports and modern sports, the holidays of Zeus and ceremonies of sports as well as the Olympic ceasefire and world peace are highlighted.
Conclusions
The result of the research indicates that the ancient and modern Olympic Games belong to two sports games, each with different characteristics. The ancient Olympic Games greatly benefit the emergence of the modern ones and enrich their content. However, the modern Olympic Games are fundamentally different from the ancient Olympic Games in that they are international gatherings with classical traditions, modern ideological connotations and taking internationalism as the lifeline.
