* The AIESEP World Congress was held last week in Auckland, NZL.  By all measures it was successful and beneficial to all both professionally and personally.  The General Assembly took place and elections resulted in a new set of Board Members. * First call for the 2014 AIESEP Specialist Seminar that will be organized in Timisoara (ROM) on November 7-9, 2014. The theme of this specialist seminar is ‘The Pedagogical Side of Outdoor and Leisure Activities’.  Its purpose is to bring together experts in sport pedagogy, as well as specialists involved in outdoor and leisure activities, in order to create a space for reflection and discussion on how to adapt to society’s increasing interest in this area.  The provisional program is available on http://www.aiesep.ulg.ac.be/pages/future_event.php. * The 2015 AIESEP International Conference will be held in Madrid, ESP, July 8-11, 2015. The theme for the Conference is “Moving Up Physical Education and Sports participation on the Public Health Agenda; … it is not too late to Act” The program is under construction. Abstract submission opens September 1, 2014 and notification of acceptance is scheduled for February 15, 2015.  The host will be the Universidad Europea de Madrid: http://actividadfisicaydeporte.universidadeuropea.es/en
 
* Two events will occur in conjunction with the World Day of Physical Activity: (a) the XI Forum of Best Practices will take place on April 1st in Sao Paulo, and (b) the International Congress on Physical Activity and Public Health which will be held 8-11 April in Rio de Janeiro, BRA.  For more information, please see the website: www.portalagita.org.br

* Former AIESEP President (1996-2006), Ronald S. Feingold, Ph.D., professor emeritus at Adelphi University, New York, will be inducted into the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance’s (AAHPERD) Hall of Fame for his impressive contributions to the physical education profession as an educator and scholar, AAHPERD officials announced today.  He has championed quality physical education for over 40 years and feels strongly that physical education is an important part of teaching today’s youth and tomorrow’s leaders to be healthy productive citizens. AAHPERD will bestow the honor at the organization’s Hall of Fame Banquet on Friday, April 4, at the Renaissance St. Louis Grand Hotel, during the 129th annual AAHPERD Convention & Expo.  AAHPERD’s Hall of Fame awards are given to honor outstanding individuals who 1) make significant contributions to maintaining sport, physical education and physical activity as an integral part of the total education program; 2) further the image of sport and healthy physical activity for all; 3) accentuate the integral relationships of sport, motor development  and physical activity to the total educational process; 4) encourage involvement in meaningful competitive sport or physical activity programs by influential educators and citizens in all walks of life; and 5) symbolize the educational and developmental potentials of physical education and sport.  Past NASPE Hall of Fame inductees include golfer Annika Sorenstam, University of Tennessee Women’s Basketball Coach Pat Summitt, tennis greats Billie Jean King and the late Arthur Ashe, NFL Hall of Famers Nick Buoniconti and Anthony Munoz, and Olympians Wilma Rudolph, Rulon Gardner, Dan Jansen, Rafer Johnson, Nancy Hogshead, Carl Lewis, Shannon Miller, Edwin Moses, Dot Richardson, Peter Vidmar and Tony DiCicco.

* The Department of Kinesiology (http://www.latech.edu/education/kinesiology/) at Louisiana Tech University is seeking qualified candidates for an Assistant Professor, Tenure-track, Nine-month position. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in the area of Physical Education Teacher Education, teaching graduate courses and directing graduate students in related areas including Administration of Sport and Physical Activity, Advising undergraduate students, Collaborating with local schools to ensure quality field experiences, Conducting research and securing external funding in the area of specialization. Responsibilities also include department, college, and university service assignments. A qualified candidate would have an earned doctorate in Physical Education Pedagogy or a related area; evidence of effective teaching in specialization area; experience and/or ability to supervise practicum experiences and student teaching; evidence of scholarly productivity. Teaching experience at the K-12 level is preferred.   EFFECTIVE DATE OF EMPLOYMENT: Appointment will be effective fall 2014. * The Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion, and Recreation at the University of North Texas is recruiting a highly motivated individual who will bring strengths in teaching and service to support the department’s programs. The individual selected will serve a nine-month, non-tenure track appointment beginning Fall semester 2014 with continuing renewals possible based on annual reviews of performance and available financial resources. An offer of employment is contingent on a satisfactory criminal history background check. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and background. Summer employment is contingent on student demand and funding. Qualifications: Master’s degree in Kinesiology or related field at the time of appointment. Candidates with teaching experience at the College level and a doctoral degree are preferred. Responsibilities: Primary responsibility will be teaching a variety of courses in Kinesiology. The primary areas of instruction will be sport administration, facilities and management; and coaching and leadership in sport. In addition to teaching, the lecturer will serve the program by participating in such duties as recruiting and advising students, developing curricular relationships with other programs and colleges, serving on committees, cultivating internship and practicum sites, coordinating internship placement and paperwork, supporting students in community service projects, contributing to continuing education and professional development content delivery, reviewing and submitting changes to the program website, and contributing to the marketing and development of the programs. The successful candidate will teach four (4) organized classes per long semester. Other assignments may include (1) Advise students; (2) Supervise interns and/or student teachers; and (3) Serve on department, college, or university-wide committees, and participate in the periodic review and assessment of programs.

* 3rd World Scientific Congress of Combat Sports and Martial Arts and IMACSSS 3rd International Conference will be held October 15-17, 2014 at the University of Rzeszow (POL). The following research fields are the foci: Topic 1: Coaching, training and fighting skills; Topic 2: Biomedical problems of combat sports and martial arts; Topic 3: Humanistic, philosophical, socio-cultural issues, psychological, pedagogical, historical (during the 7th Symposium 'Man - Martial Arts - Humanism "). There is also a possibility that apply for practical activities within the Workshops of Martial Arts.  May 31, 2014 is the deadline for early registration fees.
